Clemente Pot with Handle

Handmade in Oaxaca, Mexico of barro rojo (red clay).

Due to the nature of handmade items, pots will vary slightly in size and color.

Cooking vessel is approximately 7"W x 2.5" H

Barro rojo pottery is born from fire and well suited to cook in. Beware rapid drastic changes in temperature with your pottery. It is best to soak your pottery for at least 12 hours before each introduction to heat to reintroduce moisture into the clay and avoid cracking.

We recommend you season and cure before cooking. Traditionally, this is done by rubbing the bottom of your vessel with a cut clove of garlic after soaking. Fill with water to 1/2 inch below the rim, then add 1/2 cup of vinegar. Place over low heat and slowly bring the water to a boil. Let the liquid boil down until only about 1/2 cup remains. Cool slowly and hand wash. This step isn’t necessary, but does season the pot, kill bacteria and harden the unglazed parts. Continued use of your pottery will maintain season.

We recommend you strengthen your pottery from time to time. Simply rub the inside with olive oil after soaking and place in a medium-low oven (300F) for 60 minutes. Cool before use. This is a recommended alternative to method above, as well as an added step in ensuring the longevity of all ceramic pieces.

Barro rojo pottery needs to be hand washed and dried well after each use.
